2025 Voting

Voting for awards occurs only in the Winter season and only for age groups 11U and older.

Round 5 on Saturday, 5th April, marks the first round of voting for 2025. After careful consideration, the committee has decided to implement a 3-2-1 voting system, and we’d like to clarify the process for both coaches and scorers going forward.

Voting Process:

Scorers and Coaches will each vote for 3 players, based on the positive impact they had on the game:

  • 3 points for the player who had the most positive impact on the game

  • 2 points for the player who had the second most positive impact on the game

  • 1 point for the player who had the third most positive impact on the game

How Scorers Vote:

Within 24 hrs of the game’s conclusion, the scorer must send their votes via email, message, messenger to the coach or complete a voting slip provided by the coach on the day of the game. Please include the date of the game, your full name and names of players for 3 votes, 2 votes and 1 vote in your message.

Criteria:

Best and Fairest:

When voting please use the below Key Game Contributions to evaluate what impact the players performance had on the outcome of the game.

Consider how the player’s actions had a positive influence and contributed to the team’s success, whether by creating opportunities, supporting teammates, or executing strategies that led to a favourable result.

Key Game Contributions (for at least 95% of the game):

  • Attacking Play

    • Intercepts, shadows, and pressures opponents with effective hand and body positioning.

    • Supports teammates in defence and works cohesively as a defensive unit.

    • Adapts to different roles or positions, making smart decisions that benefit the team.

    • Contributes to both attack and defence.

    • Effectively applies the team’s strategies and set plays during the game.

    • Helps execute team goals and contributes to maintaining focus on the team’s game plan.

An Important Note:

Players being considered for votes based on Key Game Contributions should also:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and respect for umpires, the coach, teammates, and opponents.

  • Show sportsmanship both on and off the court.

  • Be encouraging towards teammates, maintaining a positive and supportive attitude throughout the game.

Coaches Award:

The Coach will be deciding on the recipient for this award, so scorers do not need to vote for this. At the end of the season, the coach will decide on the player who best embodies the qualities below. This award is not just about raw talent but about attitude, growth, and contribution to the team's success and cohesion.

  • Improvement in Playing Performance: Look for a player who has noticeably worked on their skills, perhaps mastering a difficult technique or showing improvement in their game stats, such as passing accuracy, speed, or positioning.

  • Willingness to Listen and Learn: This player should be open to feedback during training and games, showing a desire to improve. They would actively seek advice or implement changes in their play style based on coach or peer feedback.

  • General Team Behaviour: Consider how the player interacts with teammates, the coach, and officials. A player who is respectful, positive, and encouraging contributes to a healthy team dynamic, creating an environment where everyone can grow.

  • Commitment: Regular attendance at training and games shows dedication. A player who prioritizes team commitments, even when facing challenges or personal conflicts, demonstrates responsibility.

  • Keen Interest in Advancing Skills: The player should show enthusiasm in learning and improving their netball skills outside of just playing in games. This could mean taking the initiative to practice on their own, asking for extra tips, or engaging in skill-building exercises.

  • Sportsmanship: A player who consistently demonstrates good sportsmanship, accepts umpire's decisions without protest, and trusts the coach’s strategic decisions will set a positive example for the entire team. They handle losses gracefully and are not disruptive when decisions don’t go their way.
